Instagram: Users Report Their Accounts Being Suspended And Losing Followers Amid Mystery Outage

October 31, 2022

Instagram is having issues this afternoon, with reports of users having their accounts suspended.

According to DownDetector, the problems started at around 13:08 GMT and are affecting users globally. So far, more than 4,000 issues have been logged on DownDetector, while more than 1,000 have been reported from users in the UK.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, several users have reported their accounts being suspended. Other users are reporting losing followers, potentially due to the suspended users being removed from follower counts.

Instagram has tweeted: 'We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We're looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.'

However, users who are affected are being given the opportunity to appeal against their suspension, but when they do they see a mysterious black screen.

Instagram is one of several platforms owned by Meta, the company owned by Mark Zuckerberg, along with WhatsApp and Facebook.

Only last week, WhatsApp experienced a two-hour outage that left users globally unable to send or receive messages.
