You would recall that recently there has been an escalation of Tension between China and Taiwan. Taiwan leadership has seen itself as being independent of China while Chila has seen it as an isolated Island that needs to be unified with the mainland as part of the principle of one China.

Taiwan, home to 23 million people and officially known as the Republic of China (ROC) is an island separated from China by the Taiwan Strait. It has been governed independently of mainland China,  since 1949. However, there has been cross-fire of diplomatic rows from both countries with China being much aggressive this year to the extent of flying its fighter aircraft into the Taiwan flying zone.

The current situation is capable of causing a confrontation between China and the United State. The United States provides Taiwan with defensive weapons but leaves the question of whether it would actually defend Taiwan unanswered.
