Global Financial Market Trends -Snapshot View

U.S Markets, U.S. stock futures rose Friday as traders awaited the release of more corporate earnings and key economic data. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gained 79 points, or 0.24%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively.

Economic calendar,  retail sales are expected to rise 0.8% month-over-month, rebounding from a surprise decline of 0.3% in May. Excluding the automotive component, spending is seen rising 0.6% in June, up from 0.5% the prior month. 

China economy, China reported its economy contracted by 2.6% in the last quarter as virus shutdowns kept businesses closed and people at home.

Italian president rejects  PM Mario Draghi's resignation as Rome plunges into political crisis

The former head of the European Central Bank has led a unity government since February 2021. In a statement, he said the pact of trust that had sustained the unity government had gone.

However, the president refused to accept his resignation.

President Sergio Mattarella appointed Mr Draghi to lead Italy's post-Covid pandemic recovery, and save the country from endemic instability. He has now called on Mr Draghi to address parliament to provide a clear picture of the political situation.


Sri Lanka -An end to a political dynasty 

Sri Lanka's parliament has accepted ousted president Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation, ending rule by a family that wielded power for nearly 20 years. Mr Rajapaksa quit after fleeing to Singapore amid mass protests over his mismanagement of the economy. Sri Lanka is in the grip of economic chaos as it faces an acute shortage of food, fuel and other basic supplies.

Mr Rajapaksa's resignation paves the way for the country to begin a fresh democratic experience.
